Horses & Farm Animals Service
Comprehensive wellness programs are essential for maintaining the health and longevity of farm animals, including horses, cows, goats, and other livestock. These programs are customized based on each animal’s lifestyle—whether they serve as companions, competitors, producers, or working animals. Routine wellness exams are recommended at least once per year. These regular checkups allow for early detection of subtle health changes and provide an opportunity to deliver preventive care.
During a wellness visit, veterinarians may administer core and risk-based vaccines, perform diagnostic blood tests (such as Coggins for horses or tuberculosis/brucellosis testing for cattle and goats), provide nutritional consultations, and assess body condition. Oral health is evaluated through examination of the teeth and mouth, and veterinarians also inspect the skin for signs of masses, allergic reactions, or parasitic conditions. Eyes are checked for signs of injury, infection, or chronic inflammation.
Vaccination protocols are based on species-specific guidelines and adjusted according to an animal’s environment, travel history, health status, and regional disease risks. For horses, core vaccines commonly include protection against Eastern and Western Equine Encephalitis, West Nile Virus, Tetanus, Equine Influenza, Equine Herpesviruses, and Rabies. For other farm animals, appropriate vaccines are selected based on current veterinary recommendations and local disease prevalence.
Additional vaccines and preventive measures may be recommended if animals travel, are exposed to new environments, or if there is a known increase in regional disease risk. A proactive wellness approach supports not only individual animal health but also the wellbeing of the entire herd or group!
